Let me pre-empt the inevitable by confessing that I am completely naive when it comes to website development and maintenance. Nevertheless I believe I have a marketable idea for a small e-business website, and I am sussing out website design software to begin experimenting on my own in putting this together. My general needs are fairly atypical but nevertheless are basic and should not require any technical sophistication. I am a PhD in a specialist area of human behaviour and essentially the idea is that the customer would pay a fee to ask a specific question, for which I would reply with a detailed response based on my research and training. So there is no product aside from intellectual content, which eliminates the need for ‘shopping carts’ and so on. Also, I am considering charging $15 per question but ideally I would like $2 of each to go toward one of several charities. I’m envisaging a scroll-down list of charities from which the customer can choose. Any advice for a novice?

I am working on developing a new online startup company, but I will be farming out certain aspects of the web programming to an outside source. I lack the technical knowledge as well as the time, and figure the easiest way to go about this is to hire someone to do the programming. I am concerned about my idea ‘leaking’ because of this, however, especially when I seek quotes for the job by posting the details about what I need done. Is there a way to protect my idea–not a product, more a concept–beforehand? This seems a gray area to me, and perhaps I’m being more paranoid than necessary, just want to keep things close to my chest for now.

My mother is going to be selling some Avon products and I wanted to get her started on a website of her own. We are thinking about purchasing a domain. Does anyone know a good, great or excellent place where I can buy one that will fit her critera (situation)? We want to be running for atleast 1 year just to try it out, maybe an even shorter length. We want to put some videos on the site. We want a email for the webpage and maybe a tool with a refer-a-friend form. Thanks!
